I really hope it does reopen. I went climbing there a few times and it is the best wall in the country. Or it was
I was told it might reopen in Telford or Tamworth
I hadn't been for age's and heard the rock face had closed, I'm only a novice but really enjoyed the place. does anyone know if it will be re-opening or re-located ?
Unfortunately the wall closed on 31st October 2004. I for one will sadly miss it.
Caveat: I haven't been for a while. Although pricey this site has a _huge_ amount of climbing and the variety is also great. There are the highest indoor walls I've been on (some top-roped), a nice bendcrete / highly textured section, some "novelty" climbs (drainpipes and cisterns...). Not somewhere I would want to go regularly due to cost but it makes a fun day in when it's wet.
Very expensive for what it is. And they've closed the gear shop! Find some real rock... 'tis far more enjoyable. The centre has one worthwhile point. From years and years ago I know it was very difficult to find a way of going climbing if one was under 16 and had no adult supervision (or no adult supervision interested in climbing!). I believe the rockface now caters for kids who want to climb.
I climb here every saturday and have been going ever since I first learned to climb. It's well worth a visit. Especially if it's raining and you think about all the people in Birmingham shopping and getting wet. Ha Ha!
i started climbing here a month ago and think its very wicked. if you want to learn climbing, go. there are saunas at the top of the walls with maidens pouring wine and serving grapes... no only joking, but it is good. GO!!
I feel that it is very expensive... the whole place especially the toilets could do with a good clean
I am disappointed with the Rock face. There is potential for it to be an excellent facility. Well located, lots of routes, and an impressively high lead wall. It is convenient to have gear shop and cafe. However the entrance fees are excessive, and I am not impressed with having to pay £6 per year registration. In addition to this many of the holds are polished and greasy. I found the routes fairly unimaginative. Overall I feel this is a centre which has calculated the minimum amount of maintenance required to make the maximal profit, and caters mostly for beginner and corporate groups that won't notice. I doubt they will improve, as the centre is very popular.
last went in 96 started again this year love it. well worth a look for all standards of climber
I had my first visit to the wall 2 day a thought it was great and the instructors are realy friendly
