The Oberbauenstock summit is reached with a delicate and slightly earthy path / scramble that makes a rising traverse from the col to the west, Schwiren. This col can be reached from the north, steeply with cables, or from the col, Lückli, further west along the ridge line, this path having some scrambly and exposed steps to negotiate. All of these paths are marked blue and white, having a Swiss Alpine Club grade of T4-T5.
The village of Emmetten (750m) on the north side has two cable cars, one to the Stockhütte (1280m) from the west end of the village, and one to Niederbauen (1570m) from the east end. The first is a gondola type chair lift while the second is just a single small cable car, meaning inevitable delays on the way down on a busy weekend!
