Putreen Behatokia © Mark Reeves
Situated above the town of Irurtzun, Putreen Behatokia dominates the skyline and is an impressive crag more like a giant monolith (and not the direct translation which means 'the rotten observatory'). The sloping nature of many of the holds mean that the routes can feel quite demanding making it a more mental than physical exercise. You need to concentrate and spend time trying to find the right sequence. Some routes are a little run-out however the hard moves are all well protected.
Turn off the AP-15, onto the NA-2410 into Irurtzun. Follow that road to a T-Junction in the middle of town and turn right onto the NA-240-A for about 100m to a left turning signed to the Crematorium. Go up hill and round to the right where there is a large gravel car park. Carry the road past the car park and fork left which leads up to the large round water tank - park by this.
