Forums Help FAQThis page gives answers to many common problems that users have about the site, such as logging in, forgotten password, etc. If you can't find an answer to your question here, then please use the Contact us form to send a message to the forum moderators. Q1: I get errors when I try to register? The most common problems when you try to register are:
If you are still having problems using the registration, please contact us for further help. Q2: I have registered. How do I activate my registration? When you first register, you will be emailed a single click link to activate your registration. This is just to check that your email address is correct. Once activated, you will have full access to the all parts of the site. If you've lost your activation code then you can be emailed a reminder using the form below. If you don't activate your registration within 14 days, then your account will be deleted. Q3: I have activated my registration. How do I login again? When you activated your registration, you were emailed instructions of how to login along with your password. If you no longer have this email from UKClimbing, then you can request a reminder of your password using the form below. Once you have your password, you will need to enter it along with your user name (or email address) into the login form here:
When you login, a 'cookie' will be set on your computer which means that you will be automatically logged in next time you visit the site - there shouldn't be any need to keep entering your password unless you change computers, or purposefully log out. More about cookies. Q4: I get errors when I try to login? The most common problems when you try to login are:
If you are still having problems using the registration, please contact us for further help. Q5: I have forgotten my password (or activation code) Just enter the user name (or email address) that you registered with in the form below, and we'll send you a reminder of your password (or your activation code is you haven't activated your registration yet.) Once you've logged in, you can change your password to whatever you like by going to the Forum Options & Logout page.Q6: How do I change my registered user name? There is no need to create a new account if you want to change your user name. First go to the User Profiles page and use the 'Search' box to check if your new name is not already in use, if it is available then use the Contact us form and we can update your account with your new user name. Q7: How do I log in from different computers, with the same user name? If you want to use UKClimbing from more than one machine, for example from your home computer and your work computer, then you should register first on one of the computers using your most popular email address. Once this is established you may wish to change your password to something easier to remember, via your Forum Options page. Then you can log in from your alternative computer using the new, more memorable password. You can login with your user name or email address, but make sure that you enter the popular email associated with your initial account and not the email associated with your alternative machine. There is no need to have separate user names for different computers! e.g. Joe Bloggs (at work) and Joe Bloggs (at home). Q8: I am logged in, but I can't read old threads or see old photos? If you are completely sure that you are logged in as a registered user, but you can't read old threads or see the full-size version of old photos on the site, then the most likely reason is because your web browser has cached copies of those web pages on your computer, instead of fetching the latest version of the pages. First of all, try reloading the web page by holding down Ctrl+F5 keys. If that doesn't help, try emptying your web browser cache (eg. in 'Tools' or 'Preferences' depending on your browser) or using a different web browser to see if that helps. Q9: A thread I posted a while ago seems to have disappeared. Where has it gone? Threads posted in Lifts and Partners, For Sale/Wanted and Lost and Found forums, are auto-deleted after 90 days without receiving replies. Threads in the Chat Room are deleted after 2 days without replies. Q10: I am unable to access UKClimbing at work because it is blocked? There is a mirror of UKclimbing.com available at http://www.ukc2.com Q11: Can I be notified when people reply to forum threads I have posted on? Yes, you can find out about replies to your threads with a feed for RSS browsers. There are also RSS feeds to keep you up to date with the latest UKC news items, events, articles, photos, etc. Q12: How do I delete my User Profile? For security reasons, there is no option to delete your own account. If you don't log on then the profile will be automatically deleted after 24 months. Please check our Privacy Policy for more information about your User Profile privacy and removal. Before you leave us though please contact us and let us know if there is anything we're doing wrong on the site, or problems that we could solve - we'd like you to stay! Q13: Unsubscribe me from your mailing list!!! UKClimbing has an opt-in weekly newsletter, which users can unsubscribe from at any time. You can also choose between getting a simple text-only newsletter email (under 10Kb), or an HTML version with some graphics (about 100Kb). All you need to do is log in, and then go to the Forum Options & Logout page. Q14: How do I update my email address? If you have to a new email address, please update your UKClimbing User Options so that people can contact you through the forums, and we can send you weekly newsletters, password reminders, etc. Just log in, and then go to the Forum Options & Logout page. |
