ACCIDENT REPORT: Please don’t tell my Mum May-08
[Smith's Route, Ben Nevis: picture shows the leader at the point from where the second hit the ground 60m down, 2 kb]During a brief visit to Ben Nevis in early April I was involved in an incident while climbing Smiths Route. The accident I was involved with highlighted a few issues about winter climbing that other climbers might find beneficial. This short article is not meant as a 'whipping stick' for the unfortunate climbers that I had to help rescue. Hopefully no offence is meant in mentioning their misfortune but good lessons can be learned for all.

[Ran on the Hinterstoisser Traverse, 2 kb]Sunday evening saw us 'camped' under the most infamous North Face in the World – the Eiger. The ITN film crew had set up base camp on the terrace of the Regina Hotel and were beaming live back to viewers in the UK... No Brit had successfully guided the North Face, and yet here I was taking a man dubbed the 'world's greatest explorer' up the Eiger in the full glare of the media spotlight... I was looking forward to just doing what I do best.... climbing.

In Memoriam: Ian Jackson Aug-08
