The decision to open Campfour came about on a climbing trip to North America. After returning from the trip and a few months of blood, sweat and tears, we opened Campfour's doors in January 2004.

We stock technical climbing and mountaineering equipment as well as walking and camping gear. Because we are independent, we can call on our own experience as mountaineers, climbers and walkers when deciding what to stock – we aren't dictated to by a 'head office'.

Priding ourselves on service in the shop we spend time with our customers, offering friendly, useful information and advice gained from personal experience. We want, as much as possible, to make that level of service and experience available on the web. Hopefully you see this when you browse the site.

Ever since the day it opened the shop has been great fun. It quickly became a busy meeting place for local, like-minded outdoor enthusiasts, whether climbers or walkers. Off the back of this has come 'The Chapel' bouldering wall and Thursday night climbers.

Our five gift ideas are below.

Lucy and David, and the crew.

1. Arc'Teryx C80 Chalk Bag - £16.20 (srp £18).

  chalkbag, 43 kb

Available in a variety of colours: Gold, Miro Blue, Red Beryl, Fuchsia, Blackbird.

A great Christmas treat for under £20!

2. Petzl e+Lite Headtorch - £22.50 (srp £25).

  elite, 35 kb

An awesome emergency headlamp. Compact and ultra-light (27g) you can always carry it with you. Don't think this means it won't deliver on performance...it shines up to 19m and can do so for up to 4 nights on a row (approx. 45 hrs). It can also cope with extreme temperatures (-30 °C to +60°C) and is waterproof to -1m!

This deserves a corner in anyone's pack.

5. Metolius Rope Master - £25.20 (srp £28).

These bags are everywhere and no wonder! The way to go for storing your rope, keeping out the dirt & UV rays, and booting up and stretching. It features a 4' x 5' tarp to keep your rope and other gear out of the dirt; unbreakable aluminium buckles; a padded, over-the shoulder carry strap; and dual compression straps.  At 20L capacity, it's a great size no matter whether you're climbing indoors or out.

This would be a great gift for anyone with a rope to look after.
