Job Opportunities at Reading Climbing Centre

We are one of the UK's most innovative indoor climbing centre operators. We are currently going through a period of continued growth and are looking for a management team to work at our new centre in Reading which is due to open in the first week of September, 2010. This is the third centre to be opened by John Dunne and his team, who currently operate Manchester and Harrogate Climbing Centres.

Assistant Manager

Within the position you will be expected to be very hands on and have the flexibility to work evenings/weekends & cover for the duty managers in their absence. You will act as a deputy to the Centre Manager, covering their responsibilities in their absence. You focus will be on promoting consistently high standards and contributing to the ongoing development of a great centre.

Role Purpose

1. To assist the centre manager in the daily running of the centre, and to cover their responsibilities in their absence. This will include shift management duties such as acting as a keyholder, and dealing with the opening and closing procedures of the centre. You may also be required to be an on-call keyholder in case of emergencies.
2. To work as part of a dynamic team to meet group standards and financial and operational targets.
3. To take an active role in maintaining health and safety standards.
4. To provide excellent standards of customer service and presentation. You will work on a rota system and act as a shift manager where required.
5. To contribute to a fun, vibrant and safe atmosphere for all our climbers.

The ideal candidate will have good climbing knowledge and experience of managing other people in an outdoor or leisure environment. Knowledge of Health and Safety and a First Aid qualification is desirable. This job will include some climbing instruction work with a wide variety of clients. This is an ideal opportunity to join a forward thinking organisation in its early stages of growth and be part of it's successful future bringing fresh ideas with you.

Hours of Work: 40 per week on a rota basis
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Holiday: 20 days per year plus bank holidays. As we will be open on bank holidays, you may sometimes be required to work these and have a day off elsewhere in lieu.

Duty Managers

Your role will be to support the Centre Manager and Assistant Manager to ensure that the centre is running smoothly day to day. You will have excellent customer service skills and good climbing experience.

You will ideally hold either a CWA or SPA award. A First Aid certificate is also desirable, but not essential as training will be given.

As the centre will be open 7 days a week, you will be required to work evenings and weekends as part of your regular shifts. You will be adaptable and able to work under pressure in a busy environment. You will take an active interest in the running of the centre, and develop detailed knowledge of the daily operational requirements. Great service, quality climbing and a high standard of cleanliness will be vital to this centre, and you will be intrinsic in providing this.

Role Purpose

1. To act as a shift manager, maintaining high standards of customer service, cleanliness and safety at all times. This will include acting as a keyholder, and dealing with the opening and closing procedures of the centre. You may also be required to be an on-call keyholder in case of emergencies.
2. To provide high quality climbing instruction to members of the public and a wide range of groups, including those with a range of disabilities and challenging behaviour.
3. To take an active role in maintaining health and safety standards.
4. To be flexible and adapt to new challenges and tasks presented as the centre develops.
