Premier Post: 6 Positions at New Boulder Centre - Southampton Boulder Shack Climbing Gym is a large bouldering centre opening in Southampton in December this year. This 12,000ft2 warehouse will feature a major bouldering wall, 15 top-rope lines, a fitness suite, cafe and dedicated children's bouldering area.

We are looking for a full team of dynamic, proactive and friendly staff who can deliver great customer service. If this is you then read below for details on the positions available:

- 1 x Duty Manager (Full Time)
- 3 x Team Member (Full Time)
- 2 x Team Member (Part Time)

Duty Manager (full-time)

Duties/Responsibilities – to:


  • Manage the daily running of the entire centre

  • Ensure that Health & Safety standards are met at all times

  • Provide excellent customer service

  • Organise and manage centre events

  • Supervise and train team members

  • Deliver all levels of climbing and coaching sessions, where needed

  • Play a key role in the administration and HR of the business

  • Work across multiple sites (Boulder Shack and SCW)


Essential skills


  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • To have a positive approach in dealing with customers

  • A willingness to embrace problem-solving

  • Competent computer skills

  • First Aid qualifications/experience in dealing with first aid

  • Be a positive and confident team leader

  • Have a good understanding of the climbing/leisure industry


Would ideally have


  • A minimum CWA or SPA qualification

  • Route setting experience/training

  • Performance coaching experience/qualifications

  • A current child safeguarding certificate


Desirable skills


  • Building and maintenance experience

  • Marketing, media or design skills

  • Finance/HR experience

  • Food and beverage industry knowledge


Hours, pay and perks


  • £18,000 - £22,000 per annum

  • 40 hours per week contract

  • Shifts will include daytime, evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays

  • Will be contracted to work a minimum of 5 weekend days per month

  • 30 minute paid break per day

  • £250 per year to be paid towards any training/qualifications of your choice

  • Up to 28 days holiday per year

  • Free / unlimited tea, coffee, climbing and laughs


Team Member (full-time)

Duties/Responsibilities


  • To provide great, friendly customer service: in person, by phone and via email/social media

  • To work with the duty manager and other team members to ensure the smooth running of the climbing centre and business

  • To work efficiently on reception, dealing with customer bookings and general administration

  • To deliver engaging climbing sessions to a broad range of junior and adult customers

  • To be proactive in dealing with cleaning, Health & Safety, maintenance and other vital centre duties

  • May be required to work across multiple sites (Boulder Shack and SCW)


Essential skills


  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • To have a positive approach to dealing with customers

  • The willingness to embrace problem-solving

  • Competent computer skills


Desirable skills


  • Experience of working with children

  • Climbing NGB

  • First Aid qualifications/experience in dealing with first aid

  • Personal climbing experience


Hours, pay and perks


  • 40 hours per week contract

  • Shifts will include daytime, evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays

  • Will be contracted to work a minimum of 5 weekend days per month

  • 30 minute paid break per day

  • £250 per year to be paid towards any training/qualifications of your choice

  • Up to 28 days holiday per year

  • Free / unlimited tea, coffee, climbing and laughs

  • 18-20 yrs, £12,688pa
    21-24 yrs, £15,600pa
    25 yrs +, £16,640pa



Team Member (part-time)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Contracts between 15-25 hours per week

  • Shifts will be mainly evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays

  • Paid holiday entitlement

  • 18-20 yrs, £6.10 per hour
    21-24 yrs, £7.50 per hour
    25 yrs +, £8 per hour
