"Every day when I wake up, I thank the Lord I'm Welsh." But this should not be taken too seriously; I'm as much an internationalist as I am a nationalist. "Dwi'n un o hogia'r garreg las - yn wreiddiol o 'Stiniog". Happily married to a horse-mad South Shropshire lass, with three sons who get their existence partly from me and their good looks, wit, charm and intelligence from their mother ....

Best Climbing Experience
Going to the right place, at the right time, with the right people is all that really matters. What one does is purely incidental.
So, it's either my shortest ever Alpine season, travelling by Eurostar and overnight sleeper train. Leaving Ashford on a Friday afternoon, arriving in Zermatt on the Saturday, summitting the Matterhorn via the Hornli Ridge on the Sunday and being back at work in Wales the following Tuesday morning (feeling totally wasted).
Or the first British ascent in 1985 of the 220m "Spenglerkamin"(VII), an esoteric and spectacular chimney climb on the remote west wall of the Maukspitze, Kaisergebirge.
Or even climbing up to the snow-covered 3,600m/11,900' Arapaho Pass on an absolutely perfect day in the Colorado Rockies with my two eldest sons, then aged 8 and 7. It was their first ever alpine experience.

Interests Outside Climbing
Overland exploration - vast empty spaces, deserts especially, hold a huge fascination. Otherwise an eclectic mix of music, films, books, Welsh Cobs, MTBs, Africa, Utah slickrock, SRT caving, canals and Land Rovers.
