Best Climbing Experience
Orion Face Direct with Peter Brashaw on a perfect day in the 1970s. The Frendo Spur as a first route in the Western Alps - also with Pete. Smiths Gully (Creag Meagaidh) with Alan Taylor in the 80s (a stunning, soaring, 4-pitch, 4-star route which Jimmy Marshall climbed in 1959 by step cutting). Red Edge, Black Sunday and Central Pillar (Esk Buttress) one sunny Saturday afternoon in May (1975) with Al Wildman. Up and down the Biancograt with Al in 1977. Surviving a retreat from the upper reaches of a stormy Cassin route (Badile) with Pete. Emerald Gully on Beinn Dearg with Yorkie (Nigel Robinson). My third outing on Mur y Niwl with Steve Mawson last autumn but, best of all, being able to climb midweek now that I have joined the ranks of the feckless hedonists a.k.a. the 'recently retired'.
