I am thinking of doing my ML and WML, because I would like to go on to be an IML. I have plenty of mountaineering skills books but my lack of knowledge on the geography, flora and fauna and geology is quite bad and do actually care about learning about it all. Could anyone recommend me a few books which would help me get to grips with the geology of the various popular areas of hilwalking in Britain, the alps and most other popular trekking/hiking destinations?

In reply to samsimpson: Ron Turnbull's Granite & Grit would be a start for geology. Quirky style that isn't for everyone, but he certainly makes it vivid.

In reply to samsimpson: Probably the simplest explanation & area specific books are the Rocktrails books by Paul Gannon. I have the ones for Snowdonia & the Lakes, there may be others.
