There's an interesting article in The Alpine Journal 2012 about the true story of the first ascent of the Central Pillar of Freney and the acceptance in France that the Bonington/Whillans party made the first ascent without help from the Desmaison/Piussi team.
Worth reading if you come across it.
There's also a piece that originally appeared in Rock and Ice about the Compressor Route on Cerro Torre.
