So do I go for a Go Pro hero 2 now or wait until the hero 3 comes out?

In reply to Minneconjou Sioux:

Hero 3 is out.

In reply to Minneconjou Sioux:

Depends a bit on which GoPro3 you were after (silver or black) and if you need wifi control. And whether 2nd hand Hero2 is an option.

More info required

The Surf edition is in stock.
Its what i got, and the surfboard mount turned out to be perfect for the wing of my RC plane, and the centreplug mount is now glued onto the quadcopter :)

UK Surf Black Edition - where from?
ChrisJD on 12 Dec 2012
In reply to Mikkel:

A few Black GoPro3 did arrive in UK - but (most) pre-ordered, so gone very quickly. Most suppliers are out and waiting for new stock

I was thinking of the silver without wifi and I don't want a 2nd hand one.

I can get a Go Pro hero 2 now (outdoor version) but it doesn't seem to be much cheaper than the new 3 although I am comparing shop price to Go Pro's own site.

I am in Canada so I don't think the 3's are here until next week.

In reply to Minneconjou Sioux:

On paper, the Silver is a Hero2 in the new slimmer case...

Google "gopro silver versus hero2"
E.g.

http://www.chopmtb.com/2012/12/03/video-gopro-hero3-silver-edition-vs-gopro-hd-hero2/

Personally, I'd wait for Hero3, and buy the black (to get 60pfs at 1080p) and better low light performace

But already gone one so no point to go out there to play with one :)

Cant wait for the Christmas holiday, hopefully get some nice aerial photos with lots of snow covered landscapes.

Excellent

GoPro3 Surf ordered!

The surf mount was the only one I don't have!

BTW - check out RAM mounts. They do a GoPro specific mount into their system

That seems to tell me that, if I don't already have one, I should wait for the go pro 3 (silver) as it is the same price as the Hero 2 but better. Perhaps just not that much better than the Hero 2 to justify an upgrade.

Always upgrade your 2 with the protune firmware upgrade.

In reply to Minneconjou Sioux: We had some black in stock, but sold out the same day as they arrived after we posted that they were in on our Facebook page. We have more due, the scheduled delivery date is 17th November (but the last lot were late). Then more due 28th December.

We've got White & silver left in stock and are offering some free accessories with HD2 Hero if people are looking for that model.

our site is www.summittosea.co.uk

In reply to Minneconjou Sioux:

Yeah it's good, though I don't know if it's just me, but the quality is nowhere as good as what you see on their own videos - I don't know what post-processing there is involved to make them look "studio quality".

Here's a "raw" sample straight from the camera.

In reply to Jonay:

seemed ok to me except that you do get the "goldfish bowl" effect which I think the new one deals with better.

I think you can also get HD SIM cards which help with quality but I might be wrong there.

In reply to Henry Iddon:

Is the Protune mode best suited for people who then want PP and colour grade?

Protune looked much 'flatter'/subdued straight out of the camera, not so good if you want to just want to edit clips together?
Henry Iddon - on 13 Dec 2012
In reply to ChrisJD:

Yes think its aimed at post and improved grading.

In reply to Minneconjou Sioux: I ordered a black edition 16/11 and just phoned Go pro to find out why I haven't got it, they don't even know where they are, they couldn't tell me if they are on a ship or on a factory floor somewhere or if they were even built. apparently they've been waiting for them since september so they had the stock in ready for christmas. so if you're in anykind of hurry I'd look at something else.

OK not happy.

Just spoken with GoPro support.

Despite them saying IN STOCK, delivery 1-2 days on website (it still does!), they are 'experiencing delays' in delivery and it won't be delivered within 1-2 days. I expressed my disappointment (to say the least!), they said it should be with me before Xmas.... They have my money. Big sad face.

So it looks like GoPro have no idea what is going on.

Just got email saying unit has shipped - with tracking number!

Will have to wait & see!

Dom Brown - on 13 Dec 2012
In reply to ChrisJD: yeah so have I. but I've already cancelled and ordered another one from someone else... it's getting extremley frustrating. I think I'll have to send one back or flog it on ebay, or on here maybe.
Mikkel - on 13 Dec 2012
In reply to ChrisJD: mine was delivered next day after it was shippd.
was taken to paris and flown to birmingham.
Jonay - on 14 Dec 2012
In reply to Minneconjou Sioux:

You can change the FoV (Field of View) from Wide (goldfishbowl / fish eye) to normal (flat) to narrow (digitally zoomed in a bit).

I like the fisheye as it is it's kinda the trademark of the GoPro.

I've tried the new ProTune mode - I can't see any difference personally with any colour control.

Tried it with spot metering on and off too.

The SD card was a 32GB HDSD card from Scandisk.

TBH I thought it looked ok,

It's left Paris, hopefully get delivered on Monday.

Pleased with yours so far?
Mikkel - on 14 Dec 2012
In reply to ChrisJD:

Yes so far i like it, not used it lots yet and still trying out all the various settings.
Been using the Video+photos option with camera mounted on my RC plane and got some quite nice aerial phots that way.

Still learning about processing and need to find the middle ground of good quality vs file size for sharing online.

used the 1920x1080 res setting at 60fps and it have given me a file size of 2Gb for 5 min video.
