/ Lake District Winter Climbs - Great End conditions
Anyone been up recently??
I haven't been up so the following is just an educated guess.
There hasn't been any / very little freeze thaw on the hills so 'classic' snow gully lines are in poor / not in condition, (from what I saw on Bowfell on Sunday and following forecasts.) Best bet is mixed or some water ice routes at the moment and there are better places than Great End for these.
we went up custs gully great end on sunday and brown cove central gully on saturday. . It was ice or powder. some of the turf was solid some a litte soft.
We did Central Gully Left Branch last Saturday; some ice and snow but much less in the groove than this picture which made it feel quite hard.
Check the weather forecast for the weekend :-(
Will anything be left for next weekend??
but another thaw for the next 3 days with strong winds and heavy rain
Any snow survived this week on Gt End ??? anyone been out walking?
