/ Peak District B&B
Want to take my girlfriend away to the peak district for a surprise long weekend. I don't climb much any more and she's never been a climber (with the exception of Fallen Slab Arete on Portland). So we're not fussed about climbing.
I want to take her somewhere really nice. So I’m asking you all for recommendations on the nicest places you’ve stayed… I don’t want somewhere nice on a budget… I want someone really nice regardless of budget. I always make her stay in shitty places, so this time I’m going all out!
> Thank you both! I will investigate.
> I also pondered this place ... a different kind of vibe, maybe not for us. Does anyone have any experience: http://www.fischers-baslowhall.co.uk/
oooooooh yes. It's ace. suprisingly unstuffy (last went 2 or 3 years ago, mind). Food is fantastic and the rooms are lovely - try and get the one with the huge bath and the Bloody Stupid Johnson (Pterry reference :) ) shower over it - it's all brass pipes and wierd controls, but it's like swimming under Niagara.
PS did I say the food is fantastic?
Probably worth considering the location as well. Do you want somewhere more remote or within walking distance of places to eat and drink?
I can recommend Castleton as having good walks straight from the village, good pubs and restaurants and some things to explore like the show caves and castle if you are in to that sort of thing.....but I'm a bit biased because I live there.
Lovely lady, world's friendliest dog and best breakfast I've had at a b&b (Mumbled eggs and kippers on the bone, as alternative to the full derbyshire), short walk to hathersage city centre for pubs etc
I stayed as Baslow hall about 4 years ago, and it was very nice, although I personally thought the food was more about presentation than flavour. If you/the missus is into stately home style then probably a good bet.
I've not stayed there but have had recommendations for the peacock at rowsley.
