All to play for today ,as they say.

British Champion(s) will be decided today and their are a few in contention.

Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Yeah.

Sounds like Dr Finlay produced the goods.

In reply to andymac: Don't quote me though as I can't be 100% of the winner though the guy I mentioned was certainly top 3.

FRA site is out of commission also.

Suppose it's a lot of work for the Eryri Webmaster to do all at once.

Ben Nevis results took hours to be put on the site last week.

In reply to andymac: Its also really low tech racing.. so it will take much longer than with the Ben.. be surprised if its before the middle of the week.

Yeah the people on the finish line were hand writing the numbers into a table.

Unsafe in what way?
IainRUK - on 14 Sep 2013
In reply to highclimber: No idea.. they said a dibber can fail and can't help people.. which I still don't get.. but elderly.. scared of technology. Ideally you'd use both.

I don't get why RO's don't use online entry either.. makes the whole process many times easier.

FFS.

Bit of head scratching if the finishing order is last seen heading for Wrexham.

Yep-just like there will be head scratching when you have to pay an extortionate online entry months in advance for a fell race, use a timing chip, can't get a refund blah blah blah. Spit and sawdust racing is what keeps fell racing seperate from the us/european 'trail'/'sky' running nonsense. Vive la difference fella!
IainRUK - on 14 Sep 2013
In reply to Days on Rock: Its around 50p extra for most online entries.. Peris was pre entry only.. so what 30p stamp? 40p? no idea..

But whats the difference? we're talking pence.

Sportident is the ideal system for entry and dibbers and usuall very cheap. I think short evening races or midweeks are fine as they are but think all AL's should now shift to dibbers.

I did the Ben which has a tag system. Drop one at the start.. means you started.. one at the summit.. means you summited one at the end. I had MRT looking for me.. yet hadn't started.. so they hadn't checked their system... dibbers would have been much clearer.

They were annoyed at me, but I knew their system so presumed they'd check. I should have said as well (I opted not to race due to an upcoming international). but registered for the free gear.. which as you say entry isn't cheap.. and I was there watching the wife anyway.

In reply to andymac:

Rob Jebb 1st and confirmed as British champ once again and ran the 4th fastest time in history.

Mogan Donnelly 2nd, broke the MV40 record....which was a good one.

Finlay Wilde 3rd, Oli Johnson 4th, Lloyd Taggart 5th

Mark Roberts 9th and broke the MV50 record.

Vic Wilkinson won ladies and ran 3rd fastest time in history, the fastest 2 were set by Welsh legend Menna Angharad. 3.28.14 was Menna's fastest, a nice target for any pure fell runner!

Results will be on the Eryri site........................................................................................................................................................by tomorrow night.
IainRUK - on 16 Sep 2013
In reply to andymac: results are on facebook.. not on the eryri site.. surprised at the times, pretty slow for many. I thought there would be more sub 3:20.

In reply to andymac:

http://www.eryriharriers.org.uk/peris-report-results/

Report and results were on Eryri site by 2214hrs last night.....as initially stated within previous post....

Interestingly there were 171 finishers, this compares to 179 when it was a Brit champs in 1996.

More facts - since last Brit champs in 2006 only Pete Vale has ran sub 3.20, whilst only 3 male Eryri runners have ran faster than the incredible female record of Menna Angharad.

In 1996 there were 76 vet runners whilst in 2013 there were over 140.

Some of you will be happy to know that next year Rat Race events will be organising it with the use of dibber systems and online entry, entry fee will be 145 - a 2000% price hike.
IainRUK - on 17 Sep 2013
In reply to RhedwrMynydd: Not a great advert for Eryri then would expect a proper fell club to have many sub 3:25.. what 22 mins of McQueens best time of what 3:06? I ran 3:33 as a fatty in 2008.. shortly before running 3:04 at Snowdonia to show what shape was not in..

Aye its well known how much these ruddy dibbers and OE costs.. bloody joke what Sportidents done to the sport... these rapid results.. no need for resulst being dropped off by hand.. bloody joke..
RhedwrMynydd - on 17 Sep 2013
In reply to IainRUK:

Still, you have to admit that a fair few quality fell runners have never cracked 3.30 - if we take the results from this year and in partic. those I posted from 1991 and 1996.

Out of interest - I know weather conditions were pretty torrid (though don't reckon it slowed us too much) but what do you roughly reckon you'd have been in 2011 on full route, i.e. how much shorter was the route minus Lliwedd / Wyddfa climb timewise?

Re: Dibbers / OE....aye well guess we all don't have to agree with each other on that one. I just reckon that'd be another step towards veering fell running closer to some of the torrid events we've had around here during last few years. Also that'd be an additional push towards hiking race prices from 5 to 30, aka, Ben, Wyddfa, 3 Peaks.......again know you don't agree with that but that's my view, as well as I'd guess the majority of fell runners.
IainRUK - on 17 Sep 2013
In reply to RhedwrMynydd: No idea.. 2011 was incomparable.. I remember jogging off the side of Foel Goch thinking how easy it was.. as I thought you'd go for it there.. as I knew your terrain was there to Glyder Fawr and then PyP to Lliwedd.. so I was quite happy to sit in.. but I reckon we'd have ran sun 3:40 then.. we were steady but climbed well..

I think dibbers can and are cheap.. just buy one. In Europe you pay for one and thats that. TBH I think Snowdon, Ben, peaks (quite an accurate slip there..) are capitalism.. they charge what they can.. chips are immaterial.

I don't think fell runners think that, hence why dibber races are popular. Its now the norm... outside of Gwynedd.. there is in fact no rebellion against dibbers. Has there been one race that has suffered from their incorporation? You yourself (and I've seen this) pay money on mobile phone web access to check results asap... we all do. We want instant results.. but more importantly dibbers are safer. Look at the two cases in NW.. Mike sending out Web posts asking for who finished where... how did he know they finished?

Stasi Jail today..

PS: Loved Mike's comment about the womens half time.. he really needs to get experience of fell racing at the sharp end before commenting..

IainRUK - on 17 Sep 2013
In reply to RhedwrMynydd: And you ran a good time.. better than many Eryri supposed greats.. but, and I mean this in a good way, it highlights how few thought big, we're all still a long way of McQueen. As much as Eryri is a fell club the road runners have often lead the way.

3:06.. from a guy most outside of North Wales won't know... who most in Eryri don't appreciate how superb he was.

Craino had a good run, so did Parker.. but some supposed top runners were shown where they were.. and I think you know who I mean.. few step up to the plate of the big races like we always have and when they do they get found out..
