Topic - Mountain rescue becoming redundant?

fmck - on 28 Sep 2013
At one time if you say broke your ankle you ended up waiting on a bunch of guys running up the path to rescue you. (Mountain rescue) These days it seems even the most simple of exercises are served with the rescue helicopter without assistance from the MR. I don't mean they don't have a use but it seems to of moved more to man power recovery of missing bodies or pulling a dog fallen down a gorge. I noticed in the paper that Arran mountain rescue are in line for an award for what. Helping with the island being snow bound not anything to do at all with mountains. I would congratulate them in a job well done but it sums up the situation with mountain rescue these days.
Maybe its time to call it something different like the "Response team" as we have long since moved on from its old title.
