My comments about it feeling like a hard E7 were relating to the head-point. Obviously, given that the adjectival grade is for an onsight, I think it is fair to give the route E8. Apologies for being slightly vague in my assessment of the route.

It does fall into that funny, grey area whereby, it's too difficult to call E7, yet, comparing it to something like Nightmayer, the difficulties are shadowed. Can we fix the E-grade yet?
