hi, im thinking of getting more into winter mountaineering this winter, and was thinking of going on a course to learn the skills formally, as i dont really know many people to teach me informally.
was looking into courses at plas-y-brenin but has anyone been on courses and have any comments or suggestions about which ones/places are good?
cheers.

In reply to climbingchick: I'd stick to Scotland, generally more reliable conditions.http://www.abacus.sphosting.com/index.htm. Check out this link. I did a course with them 2 years ago and it was great.

Good luck to ya

PYB do winter courses in Scotland. I did one last year, based near Glencoe. It was excellent.

I went on a course with this lot in 1997.

Would recommend them, especially if you like home-made flapjack.

i did one of Martins alpine courses this year - to be honest i don't think I'd go to anyone else if I needed training.

I did the alpine intro course with 3 clients to 1 guide - i was in one lot of three and there was another group of three - martin and another guide (wiggy) looked after us for the week. passed on lots of useful stuff and didn't teach us anything we didn't kneed to know or were competent in already. i was very impressed, very professional.

You may have noticed that I started a similar thread as this just before you. Depending on what you want to do, maybe you could come with us?

In reply to climbingchick:

OK, I was going to wait until next winter but looking at the basic prices I might be tempted to start this winter. Ho hum. Bugger is Bremex w/e I can't do because I'll probably have to work that weekend I'll do more searching.
