crampon and ice screw care

crampons and ice screws are going to bed now for the summer - any tips for keeping them nice and shiny?

would wd40 do the job or should i be looking at summat more technical than that?

If you have bare steel, especially on your crampons (it tends to be softer steel, to last longer) WD40 may actually speed up the rusting process.
Try a PTFE spray lube like GT85 from a cycle shop.
WD40 is a water displacer, if used on its own dries out steel and leaves it free to rust.
You can use WD40 to clean steel tools and stuff, but you must make sure to lube it properly with an oil like 3-in-1.

sorry for waffling on it but didn't want you to look at your stuff next winter to find it had gone rusty.
