News item by Alan Soutar

Access to Adventure is a national charity event raising money for Children in Need on the 28th May 2005.

The event will give disadvantaged children an opportunity to climb either indoors or outdoors. They will be led by qualified instructors. The aim is to give these children an experience that they may not normally have access to, creating a day of fun and learnng while raising money for this worthy charity.

As climbers we may at times forget how lucky we are to have the freedom and choice to climb. You can give one day and make a difference in someone else's life.

If you are an SPA qualified instructor or an experienced climber and are able to give one day to make a difference please contact Alan Soutar at alan_soutar@yahoo.co.uk leaving contact details.

I moved this post in order to make a news item out of it. The following replies were lost in this moving around:

Update. There are currently a number of interested groups in the Birmingham area!

From Mr Jones -
Alan - is it just birmingham or you trying for other areas as well?

Given that Birmingham has neither a decent indoor wall nor any natural rock, can see why they may be "interested" but not getting anywhere!

Reply to Mr Jones. I have some interested groups in London. I am also in contact with other groups nationally. If you have a particular area in mind, I will find a group and a venue for you there.

Reply to Wingnut. I know this event will be a good opportunity for some groups, while raising money for a good charity. If you have any suggestions for craggs in a reasonable travelling distance, I would be very grateful to hear of them. I look forward to seeing some groups participating from Birmingham.

Thank you for your comments.
