In reply to Maggot:

Huge Metal Snaplink.

It does have other meanings as well that you may find if you do a search.

In reply to Maggot: Halbmastwurfsicherung

In reply to Maggot:

HalbMastwurfSicherung, with "Halbmastwurf" being the German name for the Munter's Hitch, "Sicherung" meaning "belay"

In reply to Paddy Duncan: Halbmastwurfsicherung. Apparently its related to the German term for a Italian hitch.

In reply to Liam M:

come on Liam, why mix up german and italian?

Put italian hitch in babelfish and get it translated to german and I doubt it will come up with your definition.

=italienische Anhängevorrichtung

In reply to sutty: I was only quoting from a website I found. and I thought the Italian and Munter hitch were just different names for the same knot?
Simon Wilson 22 Apr 2005
In reply to Liam M:

it means 'half secure knot' in literal translation (i.e. an italian hitch)

In reply to Liam M: This question gets asked every three months at least, so we make up daft names for new posters.
