Beacause you have to be registered and logged in to do the survey. - They just promise not to log any user details.

NICK & ANDY - Your stats will be slightly skewed by the people such as myself that can only log into Jagged Globe at work.
I can't log in on UKC to do the survey.

I think I should get a free t-shirt for pointing this out
DaveC at Work 07 Jun 2005
In reply to CJD: I'll fill it in from my other login when I get home. If I get another t-shirt do you want me to get you one?
 Anni 07 Jun 2005
In reply to NIGBEE:

ISP address, its the internet service provider address unique to your computer/provider
 CJD 07 Jun 2005
In reply to DaveC at Work:

yes please! i have another profile who I just did the survey for in the hope of a tshirt and I failed again.

nope.
 CJD 07 Jun 2005
In reply to djgrasssnake:

surely your ISP could be common to lots of users, e.g. freeserve, as it stands for Internet Service Provider, doesn't it? I'd imagine it's done from whatever the number of your particular machine is (can't remember what it's called).

and that cookie business must have something to do with it, I presume.

anyway, all this doesn't detract from the fact that I DIDN'T GET A T-SHIRT!
 CJD 07 Jun 2005
In reply to djgrasssnake:

no, nothing like that. Just sometimes it's easier to get a straight answer when people don't realise it's CJD spewing bollocks yet again (so to speak)
djgrasssnake 07 Jun 2005
In reply to CJD:

You are correct about ISPs.

TCP/IP address is what some people may think is controlling access but these are often allocated by DHCP and so cannot reliably identify the user for more than the lifesspan of a session cookie.

Brussel Sprouts are often eaten on their own. Mistake. (Although they can be OK if given a hefty dose of course-ground black pepper, and a bit of marg/butter - and, of course, haven't been massivly overcooked.)

But they only come into their own as an ingredient in a curry, preferably a medium to hot one...

So there.
