I am looking into hiring a guide in the french alps for a day or so. I am new to winter mountaineering and would like to do some while I am over there in the summer. I have most of the kit, I would like to hire a guide so I can learn a bit more.
Does anyone know any decent guides and approx costs.

Thanks in advance

In reply to PT:
I strongly suggest you apply for a Jonathon Conville trust course. The trust was set up some years ago by Johnathons parents after he was killed on his first visit to the alps. It provides young people with a 3 day course with guides at a heavily subsidised rate (I think I paid about £35 when I did it). It is run out of Chamonix (well, Argentiere) and details should be available from the BMC.

Failing this expect to pay £70 to £100 a day for one on one tuition from one of the many alpine guides.
