anyone got any advice for unsticking a compass housing/bezel? it's just a bog-standard silva type but the housing is getting quite sticky when i turn it around - trying to componsate for mag north results in it jerking wildly! I thought about putting a few drops of olive oil (ie non-corrosive) or even a squirt of wd40?

I reckon that the olive oil will just make it more sticky in the long run. I used it on my bike chain once...bad idea!

You could try washing it in some soapy water.

In reply to FrankBooth:

With a little care the housing can be released from the bezel by carefully removing the spring clip.

Wash the parts with warm soap and water, dry and then spray household polish on the contacting surfaces of the housing and bezel and buff them until dry and then re-assemble.

A bit fiddly, but it worked for me!
