Having been on courses / expeds / climbed alongside several MICs and UIAGMs many of them seem to swear by robust rubber gardening / building gloves as the only bombproof way of keeping pinkies dry in crud weather. Is anybody using them ? where did you get them from ? are they available on-line (or will bog standard rubber gardening gloves from B&Q do the trick ? I am led to believe that a standard polartec gloce underneath suffices ?

The ones you can get from car accessory shops are really thick & strong. Totally waterproof as well.

You can get them from farming supply shops, some places even do orange ones with a lining which are quite warm.

Those sound good, being outdoors all day needs something that lasts and still keep your hands fairly dry.
You still need liners for when they do get wet, at least two pairs.

If you do use them don't let your hands get too sweaty or wear the gloves too tight or you end up with the coldest paws in the world.

If you plan to be in particularly deep soggy snow, you can get those used by vets for sticking their hands all the way inside cows.

Deep Sea fishing gloves work wonders in cold temps (and they are cheap too!). Downside is that they only just cover your wrists....

For snow and ice work I like neoprene foam gloves made from wetsuit-type material. Canoe equipment shops sell them.
They are warm, waterproof and have good grip on axe shafts and rock holds. Ideal for typical British winter climbing conditions.
