Ok, not necessarily vital for climbing, but what do you think? or am I the only freak using it in my office to make brews....

In reply to outdoorbloke: I watched as someone tried to use one of them on the top of Ben, it wouldn't light. So I'm not too convinced about them (but will say in was in the middle of a white out)

In reply to outdoorbloke:

I use mine like a travel kettle when out in the car - BRILLIANT!

in just 4mins two mugs full of hot, fresh coffee/hot chocolate/cup-a-soup etc (my flask is now almost obsolete).

In reply to outdoorbloke: Used to work in a shop where we sold them. I think they're quality, but I couldn't bring myself to fork out the cash.

don't seem to boil 1 litre in 1 minute as claimed, and feel like a cheap kiddys toy i.e cheap materials. But good for coffee at your desk! Wouldn't go away relying on one...

It boils one "cup" in 1 minute.

What most shops people fail to make clear is that the measure of a cup is about 1/4 pint, NOT the total volume of the heating cup/saucepan provided with the unit.

In reply to outdoorbloke:

I've looked at them but decided against buying.

The problem is they can only be used for one thing, boiling or reheating fluids. Whereas my little Markhill can fry sausages & eggs.

In reply to KeithW:

Agree with you completely there: for alpine climbing, ie melting snow for water they're great but for general use in the uk pants
 Peter Bradwell 08 Mar 2006
In reply to beermonkey: Mine doesn't light in windy conditions (you need a lighter), the cup jammed on the burner, when I first got it (fixed by filing the groove on the cup bigger), can flare up quite badly if you move or knock it. Other than that its fine.

They look seriously top-heavy to me.

That doesn't sound all that quicker than my 20 year old Camping Gaz thingy?

Do what I do, boil in the bag, scoff and a brew!

In reply to outdoorbloke:
I just got one, carry a lighter too as they do get damp. i make a litte tub of coffee, sugar and powdered milk all mixed together. and whatever anyone says a pot noodle or cup a soup is much better than cheese butties!!
The unit, a sigg full of water and food / brew stuff weighs the same as the steel flask and butties i used to carry, better if water is carried by two of you...
Gas is dear but the price to pay for a decent brew and hot meal?
Got mine for £44 from good old needle sports, very pleased with it.
In reply to KeithW:

Why do people on here give opinions without full knowledge?

Jet boils -"Personal Cooking System" have just come down to £59.95
Add on's include;
. a coffee press
. Pot support (for using other pans) and stabaliser (can be bought seperatley).
. 1.5L cooking pot which can be bought with the burner as the "Group Cooking system".
