My single rope (Mammut Galaxy) is getting a bath (in soap flakes) because it now bears more than a passing resemblence to steel cable, and is no longer water resistant.

Can I use my NIkwax TX Direct Wash In (designed for unlined waterproofs) to reproof it, or, do I need to go and buy some rope reproofer?

Cheers All,

Fraser

It (TX Direct) won't weaken or damage the rope at all, it may affect the frictional and handling properties somewhat (whether sticky or slicker I don't know...)

You'll still be safe.

If rope-proofer isn't much more expensive I'd just use that though.

Correction: Providing your belayer can deal with any handling changes and your rope was originally sound you'll be as safe as you were previously.

I think I tried it once and it didn't really do much.
