I'm looking for a soft shell jacket that will do for work, the pub and the hill - in the pertex and microfleece style.

I've had a Mountain Equipment Microtherm for ages, but they've stopped making them.

ditto North Face Bilayer jacket
ditto Patagonia Zephur

as I said it must be normal looking enough to do for work...
any ideas?

You musn't work in an office then. Shelled microfibre is great, but looks like a throwback to 70s jumpsuits.

Buffalo belay jacket - can't reccomend them enough for general use, far more adaptable than you'd expect. not very 'cool' but totally functional and great value.

I have a Haglofs one and it's smart enough to wear to work. I like it a lot but it was quite expensive (not Arcteryx levels, but about £160 I think).

Mine is all black. I liked the fact that it was close fitting/female fit (as a lot of jackets have sleeves that are too long for me, being a shortarse). Also it has pit zips, which most female jackets don't (good for cycling). It's not overly warm though. I'd usually wear it in combination with a fleece or something. I think it's a good weight for me (not too hot, not too cold).

The North Face Apex Magic is very good. Although the velcro on the cuffs kept pulling threads on the jacket so i had to modify the jacket and remove the velcro (nasty stuff) very good jacket though.

Just got a Patagonia Ready Mix - not a pertex type but very practical and looks not unlike a standard waterproof so Ok for work use!
In reply to rubbercrumb:

Lowe Alpine Veloce is a very nicely cut PowerShield Light jacket. Not a shelled micropile, but probably pretty similar in effect.

£75 at PlanetFear:
