Recently reported in Construction News, that a group of workers on a site in Staffordshire were plagued by a massive swarm of midges that mistook the bright yellow Hi Viz jackets the men were wearing for the flowers on a nearby field of Oil Seed Rape plants.

The probelm was apparently resolved by switching to bright Orange Hi Viz vests.

I dont know whether it would work with the crag midge, but I suppose it might be worth a try.

Why would midges be attracted to flowers? They feed on blood.

I was thinking... (bad start, I know).
What exactly do male midgies DO?
It's the females/ bitches that do all the biting.
So, what do the males do to occupy themselves and eat?

Only the pregnant ones do. Most of the time they just feed on plant fluids.

Must be some kind of bizzare cravings!

I bet it's no the house-work or childcare! They're probably all out climbing, or down the pub.
