We have a 5 day course based near Fort William during February 2007. This is ideal for those who are keen hill walkers and are now eager to learn about safe winter mountaineering in the UK. The course is a practical and fun way to gain essential skills for winter mountaineering with a small group of likeminded people, in a stunning location.
We will cover the following topics throughout the 5 days:
• Fitting crampons and equipment for winter mountaineering
• Movement skills with and without crampons
• Ice axe skills & self arrest
• Avalanche evaluation skills
• Emergency shelters
• Navigation skills
• Planning mountain travel in winter
• Steep ground movement
• Emergency ropework
The course fee includes shared chalet, self catering accommodation with superb views over the Caladonian Canal towards Aonach Mor and Ben Nevis.
