Rope bag advice

I want to get my boyfriend a new rope bag for Xmas as the DMM one we've got is totally impractical! It only has a shoulder strap and the bag itself doesn't fold out at all.

I'd really like one that is carried like a rucksack but that also folds out in such a way that you can just put everything on the mat and tie it up to walk to the next route. Very difficult to describe but hopefully you'll know what I mean!

Does anyone have any advice as to which ones I should look at?

Thanks.

Not used it, I just use a standard rope bag but this one has rucksack straps. Black diamond and Beal also make rucksacks with rope tarps but I'm not sure if any of them fold out in the way you want.

In reply to dingbat46: A second vote for the Ikea bag, holds rope, has shoulder strap and handle, has wide opening and it's cheap!

The DMM ones are good (not the one you have obviously but the other style. Basically a tarpaulin that rolls up into a very basic rucksack. This now appears to have been discontinued but Needlesports have taken the design (first on the page) http://www.needlesports.com/acatalog/Mail_Order_Ropebags_42.html

I also have an Outdoor Designs one. It is exactly the same but the quality is crap and I have to keep sewing the shoulder straps back on.

I also really like the Black Diamond superslacker, but that is a shoulder bag.

I've one of these, and it's worked out very well. Completely style free, but a very functional (and cheap) bit of kit. I'd recommend it.

Would look great as an accessory to my red rope too

yes the metolius ones are good.....even the cheaper rope master which i have would be fine.....i find the closure system much better than the zips on the BD one.

I got my rope bag from Decathlon. It was £13.99. It more than does the job. Can be carried like a rucksack. It could have been on special offer/end of the line. To my knowledge there is a severe lack of Decathlon stores around this country. Maybe you could order it???

Message ends.

I have the deuter rope bag

which is as you describe. I can get a 60m rope, harness, shoes and small water bottle in it, too. Recommended.
