I'm told if you just do one trip in a lifetime, it should be to Greenland - "stunning" was the verdict I was given

ask Al or Rich from here:

they've been quite a bit.

In reply to 'Hilda': Friends and I are off to Greenland in May 07. It is all self organised, basically we give a bush pilot coordinates where to drop us off and pickup.

Research has shown it to be very unique hence our choice of climbing there. Try googling Greenland and SMC, they have been there a few times

I am going April/May 2008, traversing from Ammassalik to Kangerlussuaq on skis.

Have nothing else to add as this is the very beginning of our organising this, but am reading eagerly any responses and any advice someone might have for the traverse!!

Contact the KMC who are Man Uni's climbing club. They've been on a few expeditions there. They've got a forum that you could enquire via. Sure you'll get a good response.

In reply to 'Hilda':

Yeah, went 2005, self organised to Kangerdlugssuaq range on the E coast. www.greenland2005.com I think, Si gave it earlier.

It is brilliant. Really really brilliant. If you're hiring ski-planes etc., i.e. no infrastructure where you are going at all, it is expensive and can be a lot of work, especially if you're new to this expeditioning, as we were.

There is stuff for everyone - much climbing and skiing at low (e.g. PD) grades. If you go to wet glacier areas/the ice cap, it is good to be comfortable on skis - not essential, but you need to like it. Different areas are very different too, so advice is only relevant to particular areas.

Re climbing, some areas of rock are much better than others, so research. Snow climbing conditions were reasonably rubbish for us, again research and always take it as it comes.

What kind of question is that? It's a huge place.

Fantastic rock climbing in the south and becoming more alpine as you head north.

Hi

yes I did a 14 day sea kayak expedition round the Ammasalak and Semmilaq fjords and it was absolutely stunning.

It really was the trip of a lifetime and I so want to go back, to climb the stacks of unclimed peaks out there and to also Kayak in the Scorsebynd fjords, right in the Polar ice cap.

If you are thinking in going...DO IT!!!
