From the 10th to 14th January the sixteenth ice climbing festival, ICE 2007 is being held, opening its doors in the L’Argentiere-La-Bessée next Wednesday morning.

In direct response to a number of ice climbing accidents in Europe last year the focus of this year’s festival is on safety whist ice climbing...........

In reply to Mick Ryan - UKClimbing.com: It's a weird season this winter here in the Ecrins. There is some good ice around but it is patchy and you need to know where it is. For instance mountain routes like Fantomas are really fat, and low-lying areas such as Crevoux are in good shape, but classics such as Hiroshima have not formed at all. If anyone wants updates on Ecrins Ice, especially the Fournel, Freissinieres, and Fournel valley areas, drop me a mail at jerry@alpbase.com
Happy hooking!
