retrievable ice screw belay

sorry to go back to an old subject, but no one explained what happens when the unscrewed ice screw arrives at your belay, very sharp and going like the clappers.
Picture the scene both climbers huddled down holding their
rucksacks over their heads possibly ?

I suspect that if you were on the kind of ground that needs you to retreat & retrieve your ice screws; there won't be much room to manoeuvre.
