Ok, think about it - you hated URC but people now know the name and face of Tim Emmett. So for sponsors - using his face on pictures will sell to people wanting to now try climbing.

Was URC really that bad in a marketing aspect?

Those of the dark art of marketing are allowed to answer this one!

In reply to Glyn Jones: I didnt hate it, today at work all the non climbers on the team (6 of them) all watched it and thought it was brilliant and some even expressed an interest in having a go.

As for "marketing" "sponsorship" I despise with a passion the commercialisation of climbing. Greedy bastards

What do you mean NOW? Tim Emmett is already well known, even before the Top Gear thingy. I don't see your point.

In reply to Simon: Greedy is probably wrong, but they soil it with their filthy lucre.

Theyve done it with fishing even and look at football. I have eveery right to despise Scott Muir and Red Bull for what they stand for

Do they? Just proffesionals making a living - do you deny the media workers taking pictures their money too?

In reply to Simon: you'll ahve to expand on that I dont understand.

To climb does not need commercialisation. its the same as this Christmas the celebration of the birth of our lord Jesus Christ was sponsored by Pepsi.

I often wondered if Tim wasn't a Trust fund kid and didn't really need to work...
