Hi,

Can anyone help in pointing a finger towards any companies or past experiences when organizing trips to Lofoten.

When ever i'm in Denmark its all they go on about and I think i'm about ready to see what all the fuss is about. I can find bits about it but alot of it is in Norwegian, fair enough but just wondering if anyone had got any good tips?

The place looks amazing and I believe if you spend a week there you can work up to doing some pretty steep climb then descent.

Thanks very much,

When you find out more, if you do, please mail me with the details. Sounds interesting, its something I have never considered.

Sure will, noboby seems to be able to shed any light on the situation though, might have to get in contact with a guiding company.

HAS NOBODY BEEN ?????

In reply to TEnty: I've only been to Lofoten in summer and that was many, many years ago. But I have seen several articles about winter climbing there both on the web & in some magazines. Try searching with Google for Lofoten & Benson for some articles by some Scots. And I think I have an article in a French magazine about ski touring published a couple of years ago

In reply to TEnty: There are quite a few ship based trips going up the Norwegian arctic coast from Tromso to Lyngen, some of the companies might do Lofoten as well.

By googling: http://www.google.co.uk/search?source=ig&hl=en&q=ski+touring+Lyngen

I found the following:
http://www.planetfear.com/article_detail.asp?a_id=977
http://www.braemarmountainsports.com/news.php
http://www.skimountaineering.com/
http://www.pyrenees.co.uk/2005%20Webpages/Ski%20Touring/Norwayboat.html
http://www.arcticseacruises.no/ski_lyngen

etc.

It is somewhere to start from anyway. I spoken to people who say the ski touring in Lofoten is very very good when the snow is good, one Swedish guy told me that a winter here was there they had months of excellent skiing conditions.

In reply to TEnty: The other thing to suggest is why not just go and check it out yourself? It's a pretty easy place to get to (in comparison to say Greenland or Svalbard), plenty of hotels etc. to stay in.

You could try emailing the Nord Norsk klatreskole-

I just googled them and guess what? Ski touring: http://www.nordnorskklatreskole.no/is.html

Mick Tighe, the UK guide is the number one man for this type of trip. You can track him down via the BMG or google him. He's based in Glen Roy, near Roy Bridge. Fort William.

Where are the best places to do some touring and ski mountaineering, also do some winter climbing. So in other words, where is the best place to go and play... What is the best idea accomodation wise, best place to fly into and then best way into the hills.

In reply to TEnty: fly to bodo from oslo then short flight to svolvaer, you dont have far to get to the hills! watch out for avalanches, more maritime climate than the mainland, the islands are a winter paradise, enjoy

accomodation, contact the tourist office in svolvaer.

ps the weather can be very crap, not unlike scotland
