Evenin' all! what is the average ape index? and does it actually make a difference? mine is +6cm
Dom Orsler 07 Sep 2007
In reply to climber1993:

Just measured it, and I', just under +4 inches, or about 9 cm. I'm 5' 11".

No, I don't think it makes much difference, if you mean in a good way.
 Jack00 07 Sep 2007
In reply to climber1993: +5cm and i'm 6'1
In reply to climber1993: Pretty much zero and I'm 6 foot. I suspect it would mean you are able to reach further for holds? Useful sometimes.
karl walton 07 Sep 2007
In reply to climber1993:
I find I can reach considerably more holds than the average person of my height, but being weak and fat I cannot always pull on them.
rginns 07 Sep 2007
In reply to climber1993: about +5cm does it really matter?
 Reach>Talent 07 Sep 2007
In reply to climber1993:
+4" but I'm 6'7" so it isn't a big difference
 omerta 07 Sep 2007
In reply to climber1993:

How do you work it out?
 The Crow 08 Sep 2007
In reply to sarah79:

It's the difference between the span of your arms fingertip to finger tip and your height.
Dom Orsler 08 Sep 2007
In reply to The Crow:

Oh, I thought it was your cock length divided by two.

Apologies.
 The Crow 08 Sep 2007
In reply to Dom Orsler:

That's your Donkey Index anyway no need to be sarky I was only answering the lady's question.
 AGT 08 Sep 2007
Difference between your height and your reach spaned from finger tip to finger tip of either hand. Mine's -1, not fair i've stumpy arms
Dom Orsler 08 Sep 2007
In reply to The Crow:

Sorry - wasn't being sarky. It's Friday, been a long week and I've had a couple of beers (it's only 5:45 here; Alberta). The mountains look absolutely gorgeous right now as the sun sets.
Dom Orsler 08 Sep 2007
In reply to AGT:

Yeah, but that gives you more power. Just look at the Dawes! Stubby little f*cker! And he was quite handy in his day.
Ian Hill 08 Sep 2007
In reply to climber1993:

I'm +20cm, it gives you more room to move your feet around inside the arc of your arms on steep rock...
 AGT 08 Sep 2007
In reply to Ian Hill: do your knuckles drag on the ground? Lol
 iceox 08 Sep 2007
In reply to climber1993:
It is a huge advantage.Think of power to weight then leverage.
J.D.1st has a huge ape index. Not uncommon for climbers of the time to be almost 1 foot over.Someone tell me that doesn't help.
It won't be Norrie!!
 @ndyM@rsh@ll 09 Sep 2007
In reply to climber1993:

1 inch, not huge, you get around this by letting go of the last hold before you grab the new one
 kevin k 09 Sep 2007
In reply to climber1993: +9
but i am only 3ft 2 "
 staceyjg 09 Sep 2007
In reply to climber1993:

Mine is zero and I'm 5ft 3, does it really make any difference?
 a13x 09 Sep 2007
In reply to climber1993:

Have i worked this out right, im 176cm tall and the max distance between my finger tips is 188cm therefor i have an ape index of +12cm?
 Souljah 09 Sep 2007
In reply to a13x:

Yep.

See above - Ian Hill has +20.

Not that uncommon.

For a primate
 Conf#2 09 Sep 2007
In reply to climber1993: I have one of -1 means i have a tiddly reach. not fair
 AGT 09 Sep 2007
Am i the only one with a negative figure? Mummy said i was special lol
 AGT 09 Sep 2007
In reply to confusicating: you're still growing at 16, go and hang off something with weights on your feet
 JamieAyres 09 Sep 2007
In reply to climber1993:

Span 189cm

Height 178cm

So, plus 11 for me BTW
