After how long would you expect the rubber on your shoes to perish due to lack of use?

In reply to Chris Tan Ver. L SP2: Hmmmmm

Mine have split on the inside of the right foot slightly above where it is glued to the sole bit... They've always been used, but during 2004 ish not a great deal at all (maybe only twice)

Ok, I've knackered the toe from scrappy footwork, but I didnt expect them to split where they have :oS

In reply to Bingly Bong:

The rand may have been cut by very sharp rock and the stresses of coping with your big feet is causing the rubber to split. I had something similar happen to a pair of tight red chillies when climbing on very sharp limestone.

Try patching with super glue.

Well you used them at Windgather so it must be sharp rock that did it, or leaving them in the boot of the car to harden due to high temperatures for the last four years.

My 20 year old EBs are still fine thank you. My Cragratz are a bit harder than when first bought 16 years ago but are fine most of the time as well.

Old school rules for longevity on easy routes.

Is rock shoe rubber vulcanised?

If it is it should last a good long time.
