Climbing steep water ice requires specialist equipment and techniques. This session outlines both practically and theoretically the equipment and techniques specific to climbing waterfall ice climbs such as found at Rjukan in Norway. Just to whet your appetite there will also be a short slide presentation on ice climbing in areas such as France, Canada, Switzerland, Colorado and Norway.
This will then be followed up with a session covering choosing equipment such as specialist ice tools, crampons, ice screws etc. Also there will be opportunities on the Tiso Outdoor Experience ice wall to be coached by Lodge instructors in some specific steep ice techniques.
Entry to the event is free, but spaces for the practical sessions after the lecture are limited to a total of 8 per session.
