For those of you planning on enjoying some norwegian ice this winter, heres details of a great hostel in the middle of the rjukan valley.
175Kr (£15ish) per person in 6 or 10 person dorm 225Kr (£20ish) per person in a double room
It is located beside road 37 that runs up the valley opposite the turning to the ozzimosis crag and gausta area. Town center is 5 mins up the valley by car.
Its a great place for both small and large groups, there's a large kitchen/dining/lounge room where everyone can relax and drink their airport duty-free purchases (yes, norwegian alcohol is extortionate). It has 2 bathrooms, 2 drying rooms and a large hall with a slackline and climbing wall for those with too much energy.
I stayed last feb and had a great stay, thoroughly recommend it for club/student groups. we had 16 people in our group and could all cook and eat at once which saves time, money and effort.
There's spare mattresses so group sizes are flexible ie. we had people who decided yes at lastminute who came and kipped on the floor in comfort as the other rooms had been booked out.
There were smaller parties there too and there's enough room not too get in each others way and the lounge is away from the dorms so if u want to stay up late theres no problems, its a really relaxed place. oh and the drying rooms kicked ass, even when overloaded with kit my gloves were always super toastie in the morning!
If you have any questions that can't wait for an email reply and dont fancy calling a norwegian mobile- you can try me here in uk until dec8th, after that i'll be in norway...
