In reply to seamonster: I'm glad to read that you are preparing a book on Pete Livesey and his contributions to climbing, as I've felt that he hasn't received the credit he deserves. Even though I unfortunately never had the opportunity to meet Livesey, as an active climber during the late 60s and 70s, he was a very influential figure, even to us Yanks. Along with Henry Barber on this side of the Atlantic, through his accomplishments and writings, he was a key figure in the "free climbing revolution" of that era. He travelled widely and contributed to the exchange of ideas and climbing philosophy that was characteristic of that time period. In particular, he helped make it "acceptable" to spend ones holidays on cragging trips, instead of the previously "mandatory" stays spent dodging storms in alpine venues. After that climbing would never be the same. I look forward to your book.
