Just over a week ago a few of us had a walk up Scafell Pike, with a lot of new snow about. We took the footpath from Wast Water towards Mickledore. Soon before the col (but not sure how soon before, as visibility was poor) we veered left along a narrow turfy ledge below the buttresses for about 100 metres, then climbed a steep narrow gulley, which led up to the summit plateau after 80 to 100m. Although the unconsolidated snow and loose rock made it a bit sketchy, the only difficulty was a waist high step near the top. Would be a pleasant route (prob grade I) in more stable conditions.

This is Long Gully, a good approach to the Pike if the snow is consolidated
