The Jonathan Conville Memorial Trust was established by the Conville family after Jonathan died on the North Face of the Matterhorn in 1980. The trust encourages safe practice in the mountains through the provision of winter courses in Scotland and summer alpine courses in Chamonix. All courses are heavily subsidised by the trust.

Plas y Brenin administers the courses on behalf of the trust and deliver the summer alpine programme from mid June to the end of July. Courses cost only £68 and are staffed by British mountain guides.

It could not be easier to apply using the online form here: http://www.pyb.co.uk/courses/conville.php The deadline for applications is Friday 18 April.

British mountain guide Steve Long has worked on a number of Conville courses and has produced the film documenting the experiences of a previous student.

For some pre-trip advice, the Alpine Essentials DVD outlines the essential skills for alpine mountaineering. View the trailer here: http://www.thebmc.co.uk/Pages.aspx?page=234
