I've done 2 mountain routes so far both in boots and both only at Diff. I'd be interested to know at what point people switch over to using rock shoes?

In reply to Matthew Burton: It'll be different for everyone, and depend on the conditions. I prefer to climb in rock shoes most of the time, even for easy stuff. For me, it's because the soles on my normal boots (i.e not my B2s!) are absolutely dire, and would/could pop off medium sized footholds at any point. Depends on a lot of things really! Sorry to be absolutely no help...

In reply to Matthew Burton:

Depends on the person. I've climbed Diffs and VDiffs in trainers or boots, but also in rock shoes (when I've wanted to climb fast). Some good licmbers may be happy on VS in trainers. Newbies will want to do Mods in rock shoes.
If it's summer and warm, I clip sandals to my harness to walk down in. If it's not warm, I carry boots in a sack.
