compass bezel froze

Hi

The bezel on my compass (Silva Ranger 3) froze up yesterday on Beinn an Dothaidh. Never happened before, it was freezing (obviously) but I was a bit surprised. Is this unusual? is it a fault or just symtomatic of certain types and winter climbing?
