Can anyone suggest a good but cheap waterproof jacket. No frills, just a plain old waterproof that I can throw on over other layers so I remain dry and I dont' suffer a sense of humour breakdown

What do you call cheap?

Magic Mountain in glossop has some particle pull ons for £60. Was very tempted, but I thought they were a bit too light to be hardwearing in the end.

In reply to 999thAndy: I'm talking around the £50 mark! I'm poor and can't afford exciting but over priced water proof stuff that's on sale at snow & rock etc!

In reply to Zygoticgema: What does a Marmot Precip cost in the UK ? about 100 Euro here in France without any discount so probably available for a bit less if you shop around

In reply to Doug:

Precip was around £50 I think when I got one. Good basic lightweight waterproof.
OP Zygoticgema 16 Apr 2008
In reply to freerangecat: Ohhh what do you know! £39.99!

Haven't used this shop but I'm sure someone on here will have

I have one and no complaints about it.
In reply to Zygoticgema:

I'm using a Decathalon Quechua copy of a Patagonia jacket! It's green cost £35 and definitely keeps the wet stuff out as I found out on a very bad Dartmoor weekend recently!
In reply to SFM: Also available from urbanrock for £40.

Even better.
In reply to Zygoticgema:

Aldi? £30

Can't comment on it, other than to say it uses a Toray fabric; well-respected fabric maker, usedby many big names, especially for 'own brand' fabrics.

I'd say shop around and don't get hung up on looking for any specific brand or model. Just look at the bargain rails for last years models colours.

In reply to Zygoticgema: Have a look at the Keela stuff. Zeus or Odin. From around £40. They're good enough to be used as waterproofs by the MR team I'm a member of when we don't need the "bullet-proof" Goretex gear (and much lighter!).

£15 over your budget but it's a lot of jacket for the money

Reduced by £85 from £150.
