I have the 1988 Scafell guide which pre-dates the tragic accident in 1994 that altered the Flake pitch on CB. I understand that the front of the flake is climbed these days. What grade is this pitch, please? If a kind soul would type the new pitch description from a newer guide, I would be most grateful!

Regards
Jim

In reply to Black Mamba: I haven't got the guide to hand but you climb up from the belay half way up the flake, lean round flake to find a horizonal break running out left, pull round then traverse 1m, then pull up and trend slightly right to the top of the flake.

It felt about E1 5b/ maybe HVS a little exposed but really good quality climbing. We belayed at the far left end of the flake on a blocky ledge, quite a bit of drag but sets you up well for the next pitch,

Gareth
