 Jack Geldard 30 Sep 2008
John Cox recounts a tale of rucksacks lost in the ocean, seduced farmer's daughters, hot-wired cars and a very late night taxi ride. He sums it up thus:

"It all came to well over a grand. But it's a great route. Worth every penny."

" but on the other hand my climbing apparel has marginally fewer strategic holes in it than his,"

My God John, I've seen your climbing clobber so I dread to think what your partners looked like.
In reply to Derbyshire Ben:

You've only seen my climbing clobber after a session on The Vice, to be fair! Few clothes are at their best after that.

Absolutely, definitively the best article ever on UKC.

I'm doubly pleased because I couldn't find the original thread last time I searched.

A splendid piece of story-telling; thank you.

In reply to johncoxmysteriously: Brilliant John, very funny Surprisingly the article has been read 666 times, considering the route name quite appropriate I thought

Love this story Now where's this mythical one about recovering yourself and gear after falling off The Moon that I've heard about, or was that someone else?
 Al Evans 01 Oct 2008
In reply to johncoxmysteriously: Again brill, and so true, relates to so many Gogarth experiences of my own. Similar to my Cilan ones

Thanks for that .... fair cheered me up on a miserable morning in front of the computer!

Oh ... and I'm now looking for a cloth to clean the screen and keyboard after projecting coffee at them on the back of the laughter I could not contain!

I just loved this line
"for some reason, despite an upbringing in Liverpool, Squib professes no expertise at breaking into cars"

Very funny - cheered my day up!

In reply to Jack Geldard - Editor - UKC: This is an outstanding article. It's very well written and the tale is told beautifully. I would love to see this standard of writing across more of the UK climbing media. The one thing that springs out is that very little of the article is about climbing...most others would have written tedious stuff about the route and then mentioned the car epic as an afterthought. Excellent.

LOL

That story cost him over £1000, maybe he should get paid for the next one instead.
 Mooncat 02 Oct 2008
In reply to sutty:

Maybe the UKC collective could sponsor him to have the odd epic.

Who is Al Lee? He or she sounds like my potential rival. I'll do the film for pleasure if John wants. And he can keep the rights.

In reply to Jack Geldard - Editor - UKC: I heard that the following weekend when John went to pick the car up was a slight shambles as well, carrying on in the vein of every decision resulting in making a bad situation worse... Only hearsay though but it was quite a funny addendum.
