Anyone out there with ideas for building an outdoor home climbing wall? Planning an overhanging 12ft X 8ft wall onto a very solid back garden wall. Will be open to the elements and more than likely there winter and summer. Suggested to use Marine Ply and wooden off cuts. Any idea's anyone? Pictures? Advice?

Cheers Jon,

I had googled the idea myself. However, there are loads and loads of indoor walls on stairs, garages, front rooms etc etc. Not many, althought one or two have been informative, projects on outdoor walls and the specific problems relating to them, ie what lasts longest, type of holds, bolts, levered on a pulley to allow a change in the overhang angle or a solid angle to the wall etc etc. Thanks though, fast response.

Make sure you don't topple your garden wall, it may be a lot less sturdy than you think when pulled sideways.

Wood holds will deteriorate badly and rapidly outdoors in the uk. Plastic holds, sealed marine ply and a canopy over the top and it might work ok. Problem is it's grim to use in winter when you need it most.
